TASTE VIETNAM WITH COUNTRYSIDE BICYCLE TOUR & COOKING CLASS

We start the day(8.00am) a tour meeting point– Vy’s Market Restaurant (3 Nguyen Hoang Street, An Hoi Islet, tel: 0510 2241555/2241556).
Your guides will arrive with your bicycles to collect you for the start of th escenic Countryside  Bicycle Tour and Tra Que Herb Gardens. We cycle through the Ancient Town and quickly venture on to the country lanes avoiding any heavy traffic and main roads. The sightseeing on this tour is rather spectacular so make sure you bring your camera.

We stop at rice paddy fields learn about rice and how it is grown and harvested. We then continue on past water buffalo and exotic birds to the herb and vegetable gardens of Tra Que Village. Your guide takes you on an informative walk through the herb gardens giving you lots of culture, history, cooking and herbal remedies of the many herbs grown here. You will visit an old traditional family who are the only CaoLau noodle makers in Hoi An. This 5th generation family welcomes you and is proud to show you all the steps and techniques involved in this skilled and artful processof making their noodle that supply all the local restaurants and the whole of Vietnam. We also go to the home of beansprout growers to learn about how they grow and their cleaning techniques, we then visit a countryside market learning about local fruits and vegetables.

We then return to Vy’s Market Restaurant by bike where you will be guided around the many live food counters in this unique first-of-its-kind interactive dining venue in Vietnam. Here you can see, smell, hear, taste, touch and interact with many different food making processes. You can try samples from over 10 different food counters including banh mi, dumplings, pickles, weird & wonderful foods, our rationing foods in Vietnam that were in place for 45 years, sweet treats and many more. You can see rice paper being made from ground rice and water, laid out to dry on bamboo and then later roasted for rice crackers to eat with Hoi An chilli sauce and salads, various shapes and sizes of rice noodles. Experience our famous local noodle dish Cao Lau, see the noodles rolled out by hand and cut in the traditional way with a long knife and then steamed over an open fire. You may participate in many of the street food counters; cutting noodles, making rice paper and wontons, using the bun noodle machine and more.

The cooking lesson runs about 2 hours - our cooking teachers firstdemonstrate each dish before we prepare the same dishe sourselves. After the lesson we sit down and eat what we have cooked. You will receive a copy of the recipes and a Vietnamese cooking utensil to take home.
