CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK – 3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS

Depart from Ho Chi Minh City to Cat Tien National Park. Located 150 km north of Ho Chi Minh City, Cat Tien National Park has an area of about 720 km2 and protects one of the largest areas of lowland tropical forest left in Vietnam.

Upon arrival, you will take a rest and have lunch at your hotel in the national park administration area.

In the afternoon, enter the park and start your biking trip to visit the floral system. The park consists of seasonal tropical forests, grasslands and riparian areas, divided into five major habitat types as Primary evergreen forest, primary and secondary mixed or deciduous forest (dry season), Secondary forest with abundant bamboo species, Bamboo forest, Seasonally flooded grasslands. During your biking time, you can see a part of those. Take some stops at the big tree and a spring.

18:30, get on a truck to see the night forest within a total distance of 12 km going and returning in about 1 hour. You will be introduced about the vast grasslands, the ideal habitat of ungulates. You can see deer, porcupines, rabbits, weasels... looking for food in the night. Depending on the season and weather of the year, plus a little luck, you can meet a herd of gaurs with strong and wild beauty.

Overnight in the national park

Optional WILD GIBBON TOUR: the trip starts at meeting point at 04.45. You will be transferred to the listening station and wait for the gibbons to start singing. Once they sing, the tour-guide will show you their location, and you can see their normal day-to-day activities such as feeding, resting and travelling.

In the morning, you will take a visiting to Museum of Nature. With a collection of more than 120 wood samples, 100 fish specimens, 500 insect samples, nearly 20 bat samples and 10 animal specimens such as rhinoceros, gaur, black-shanked douc... you can know about the world of all species in Cat Tien. Continue you trip to Wildlife Rescue Area. This is a place to rescue wild animals that have been hunted and kept in captivity. Accordingly, after receiving these wild animals, the experts and staff of the center will take care, examine, treat and train the natural instincts of individuals and then release them to the wild environment.

10.00 am, a truck will take you on the road of 9 km before stop to start trekking 5 km to one of the most important part of the park, Bau Sau (Crocodile Lake) Wetlands and Seasonal Floodplains. Bau Sau is a key habitat for 50 very rare IUCN red-listed species like Siamese Crocodile, Asian Arowana, Black-shanked Douc, Asian Elephant, Wild Gaur, Yellow-cheeked Crested Gibbon and Smooth-coated Otter, 131 endemic fish and 6 species of turtles, tortoises and terrapins. Several red-listed birds include Pseudibis davisoni, Cairina scutulata, Grus antigone and Leptoptilos javanicus, and plants Dipterocarpus dyeri and Diospyros mun. The surface of the wetland area is more than 2,500 hectares in the rainy season, becomes smaller in summer the surface area is about 100-150 hectares.

Trekking back to the meeting point for transfer to the central area, then go back your hotel and relax.

Overnight in the national park

After breakfast at your hotel, check out your hotel and start our last days with driving to Ta Lai village. This is the residence of minorities Ma and Stieng and some of Tay people. They used to live in the central valley of the reserve for several centuries, and several hundred people are currently resident.

Have lunch at a traditional long house style before driving back to Ho Chi Minh City.
